Code for Sustainable Homes Assessments
 |
What is the Code for Sustainable Homes?
The Code for Sustainable Homes is an assessment method that rates the environmental qualities of all categories of new homes within England. The Code is based on the Building Research Establishment’s Environmental Assessment Method (BREEAM) EcoHomes and is a standard for the key elements in achieving sustainability in new homes through good design and construction.
|
The scheme rewards developers who improve the environmental performance of a development through good design which shows sustainability credentials to planning authorities and investors and, crucially, superior green design to the ever more environmentally aware home buyer.
Individual dwelling types within a development are assessed and achieve a rating on a scale from one (*) to six (******) code level stars. The Code for Sustainable Homes is designed to help tackle climate change, resource use and impact on wildlife and balance these issues against the need to provide safe and healthy homes and a high quality of life.
How to get a Code Assessment
P H Warr plc is able to assist clients during the design stage by providing an early indication in the Initial Prediction Assessment of the likely rating and advising on methods for improvement so that the desired rating can be achieved.
Formal Code Assessments are subsequently carried out in two stages as detailed below:
The first part of the review is carried out at the Design Stage Assessment and each dwelling type is given an interim code certificate based on as built drawings and specifications.
The second part is carried out at the Post Construction Review entailing a series of site visits and inspections where each dwelling type is given a final code certificate showing the overall sustainability rating for the home and a breakdown of how that rating has been achieved.
All assessments are undertaken by our licensed assessors and covered by the BRE’s quality assurance procedures to ensure a consistent approach and high level of service.
How much does it cost?
P H Warr plc will provide a quote dependent on the size and complexity of the site, number of dwelling types and the degree of information provided.
